Abstract
Architecture, like language, aims to convey meaning, and since no meaning comes out of it as a system, change becomes an inherent characteristic of it as one of the most important characteristics of any system... and from that, architecture changes from one period to another and its meaning changes. Events of change in architecture are associated with giving a role to the recipient in interpreting it, as its change simulates his intellectual ability when the mind is surprised by an architecture whose characteristics are not known in advance, which makes the recipient a participant of the creator in the process of creativity and reaches the stage of creativity in concluding the work. Thus, the study of the impact of system change on the recipient constituted the general problem of the research. Its scope was narrowed by focusing on the study of change in one dimension of meaning within the theory of semantics, namely, the structural change of the system and its impact on the recipient's role in reception, thus representing the specific research problem. The research examined architectural studies that discussed the relationship between structural change in the system and the recipient's role in reception. These studies were discussed based on the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and objectivity of their tools for addressing the topic. However, their shortcomings became apparent, resulting in an unclear understanding of the subject. Therefore, this research required the development of a framework to provide a clearer understanding of it.
